John has been living on the water his whole life - born and raised on sailboats in New Zealand. He sailed to America at the age of 15, which developed his love of sailing across oceans.

At age 17, John joined the U.S. Navy and served as an officer on 5 Navy ships and deployed 6 times. He was a Search and Rescue Swimmer, Vessel Boarding Officer, Navigator, Helicopter Control Officer, and Operations Officer, accruing enough miles to circle the globe over 16 times and visiting 50+ countries.
